Mentoring
During my Ph.D. program, I have had the opportunity to mentor multiple undergraduate students in my advisors lab. Additionally, I have mentored peers in our doctoral program through the formal peer mentoring structure in the program.
During my M.S. program (Spring 2016), I had the opportunity to mentor a high school student in biotechnology research. During this time we worked on a project looking for nematode resistant markers within the cotton plant, Gossypium arboreum. This experience allowed me to work one-on-one with a student, teaching him different skills such as DNA extraction, PCR, Gel Electrophoresis, Record Keeping, Lab Safety, and more.
